No Guts – No Glory

poster file_page_64Ever wonder why all the great men and women in history often said the coolest things – words that resonate with us,  words that we can live by?  That’s because all these famous dudes had good habits of mind. We can’t just click our fingers and become successful overnight. Success in all areas of life, takes a little work. Whether you wish to be the best you can be in business, family life, professions or sport – it takes heart, mind, skills and HABITS.  Steven Covey thought that it all starts with our inner beliefs when he wrote the famous, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”.  Read this summary…

Ms Sliskovik has discovered a handy way to remind us of all the different habits of mind, which will keep us focused on our goals and school work.  A high school in New Zealand has produced over 80 excellent A4 posters with vivid graphics and inspirational quotes, to remind us about the best habits of mind for young adults. Rangi Ruru Girls School have shared their inspirational posters with the world in .PDF format. We can download them and print them for our own personal study areas. Last week we loaded them into a digital photo frame so that you can sample them while you wait at the loans desk.

Year 8 are studying diverse environments and have been using an online resource list we created in Diigo, the social networking site. These useful directories, customized search engines and tools should make it easy to find and compare island environments around the world in order for each SOSE group to choose a great location for the next season of  “Survivor”.   In addition to these time-saving webliographies, our  library also assists students by creating printed and digital pathfinders. We don’t aim to supply the answers, just a few signposts or clues because there is TOO MUCH INFORMATION OUT THERE ON THE INTERNET. We hope we can save you from sifting through hundreds of thousands of websites, by pointing you in the right directions.  On that note, view a dynamic slideshow about why the world needs libraries more than ever…
