Military Display Courtesy of Cairns RSL

No matter how digital we go, our digits still like to connect with primary resources. Whilst our library doesn’t hold any ‘realia’, we have been sampling some dioramas and specimens from the Queensland Museum. So far we’ve showcased:  Antarctic Explorer, Marine Life and currently have Outback Queensland on display.  By far the most popular was given to us this week by our friends at the RSL. It was bigger than a smart car when we opened it up – full of everyday items used by Australian soldiers in various Twentieth Century conflicts as well as memorabilia and medals. A warm thank you to the Cairns RSL for allowing us to inspect this priceless collection. With Anzac Day coming up during the holidays, we also want to express our appreciation to the Returned Services League for their annual book donation.   What is “a dead man’s penny”? Visit the RSL website to learn more.

A large digital repository of Australian  primary resources can be found at Trove but for military archives and resources, you won’t better  the Australian War Memorial.  Don’t miss the Dawn Service this Anzac Day, 25th April.  Take the tour of the Cairns RSL display boxes with Ms Sheppard and Ms Courtney by clicking on the photograph below.
